Palladian to seek grant for H'ville waste water anti-degradation study

Wednesday, October 21, 2009
HORNERSVILLE, Mo. -- Following a delay in the City of Hornersville's new waste-water treatment facility due to anti-degradation requirements, Wade Morse, president of Palladian Consulting Engineers of St. Louis, Mo., the company constructing the facility, informed the city's Board of Aldermen that he recently spoke with Mitzi Dell, the city's grant writer, who said there is a grant to help cover the cost of the anti-degradation study.

According to Morse, he spoke to Dell last week, at which time Dell said there was funding available for the study. Morse said Dell he was not sure if Dell has applied for the funding.

Mayor Richard Mara said the city has not heard and Dell has yet to turn in a report for the month.

Morse said he understood that Mara would have to sign the application, which Mara said he has not seen.

Morse said he hopes the application process is not too much of a delay, as the city is on a timeline with the Department of Natural Resources.

Both Morse and Mara said they will check with Dell to see the status of the application.

Also in the meeting, it was reported that the fire department responded to one fire last month, and no issues were presented by the police department.

In the street department report, Penny McLarty, city clerk, announced the winners for the final Yard of the Month for this year.

In the North Ward, the winners were Aaron and Caley Edmonston, at 405 Highway 164. In the South Ward, the winner was Louie Deffendall, at 215 Edmonston Circle, Apt. 3B.

McLarty then said some residents have asked if the city will do anything for the best decorated yard at Christmas time. The idea was tabled for future discussion.

The board then approved doing a Tree Lighting Ceremony again this year, which will take place the Monday after Thanksgiving.

In other matters, Vera Gleuck was sworn in to the open position on the Hornersville Housing Board.

The board closed the meeting by adjourning to executive session in which no matters were discussed.
