Melvin married Donna Godsey on Jan. 30, 1981 at Friendship.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Summers of Kennett; two sons, Christopher Jones and his wife, Tammy, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Tony Jones, of Kennett; one daughter, Elisa Galvan, of Jackson, Miss.; two foster daughters, Carol Parsons, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., she has three children and three grandchildren, and Alena Johnson, of Deering, Mo., she has three children and four grandchildren; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Summers, of Bernie, Mo., and Stephen Summers, of Kennett; five sisters, Norma Jaques, of Bernie, Phillis Summers, of Kennett, Belva Joe Frasier, of Wappapello, Mo., and Beverly Deniston and Penny Collins, both of Malden, Mo., and other relatives and many friends.
Melvin was preceded in death by two brothers, Delmar and Randy Summers.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., today, Tuesday, Oct. 13, at McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Smith officiating.
Burial was in Berrong Cemetery at Zalma, Mo.
Pallbearers were Tony Jones, Jason Blurton, Allen Summers, Steve Godsey, Christopher Jones and John Chandler.
