SIKESTON, Mo. -- The Kennett Lady Indians tennis once again proved that the last mile of the race is the most important.
The Lady Tribe capped an amazing comeback from starting the season 0-3 by taking second at the Class 1, District 1 Tournament here Wednesday to earn the right to host a regional match on Monday.
Alexandra Brown lived up to her seed as Kennett's top singles player, winning the district title in singles, the second district title winner Kennett has produced in a row. Brook Burcham won it last year.
Meanwhile, the senior duo of twins Vickie and Yiota Panousis finished second in doubles play. The twins and Brown will all three compete in the state tournament later this month.
Meanwhile, Kennett will host a regional match for the second straight year Monday at Wheatley Courts.
Softball
Class 3, District 2 Tournament

At Festus, the Lady Tribe bounced back from a two-week layoff with a strong win over the Black Cats.
Kennett (10-7) is slated to take on defending district champion Notre Dame today.
Volleyball
Kennett def. NMCC
At New Madrid, the Lady Tribe (14-7-4) overcame a bout with the flu to sweep the host Lady Eagles in a makeup of a game originally scheduled for Monday.
Kennett got big games from seniors Ciara Dewrock and Jody Vancil, while Mackenzie Carr and Morgan Pickens stepped up to play on varsity to fill the gaps caused by illness.
