Born April 14, 1928 in Rector, Ark., he was the son of the late Charlie Stricklin and Ocie Banks Stricklin.
Gene married Lydia Ann Boswell Glover on Feb. 16, 1962.
Survivors include his wife, Lydia Ann Stricklin of Desoto, Mo.; one son, Randy Glover and wife, Janet; two daughters, Cindy Sinnott and husband, Roger, and Marcia Stricklin; one brother, Charlie Lavern Stricklin and wife, Sandy; six grandsons, Brad, Brian, Chad, Larry, Kevin and Brandon; great-granddaughter, Brooke, whom he referred to as "Precious", as well as several nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by a son, Tim Glover, and 10 brothers and sisters.
Gene was a U.S. Army veteran and proudly served in the Korean War, stationed part of his time in Tokyo, Japan. He loved to tell stories about his travels when he was in the service.
In his early years, Gene and Ann were members of the United Church of Christ in Lemay, Mo.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He was retired from Intertherm International, St. Louis, Mo., as a welder and sheet metal specialist. After retiring he worked as a part-time security guard.
Gene will be remembered by his family as a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. When his wife Ann was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, he has been by her side every moment that he could be. After 47 years of marriage, she truly remains the love of his life.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., today, Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, at McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett, with services being held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 24, at McDaniel Chapel.
Burial will follow in Woodland Heights Cemetery at Rector.
