CHARLESTON, Mo. -- The Kennett Lady Indians bounced back from their first loss of the volleyball season with 25-10, 25-10 sweep of the Charleston Lady Bluejays here Thursday night.

"We just came out tonight and took care of business," said Kennett coach Laura Ort. "They played hard ... Every game we're just going to go out and play as hard as we can play."

Kennett (2-1) won on the strength of the serving of Taylor Wake -- who served for 16 points with three aces in the opening set -- and Chrisie Burrow, who served for 15 points in the second set.

"Taylor Wake dominated the first game with her serving," Ort said. "The second game Chrisie Burrow dominated with her serving. ... Taylor and Ciara made great passes on the back row during that run and made it easy for Chrisie to set and our hitters to get kills."

Jody Vancil led the way with seven kills, four aces and three digs, while Audrey Wynne added seven kills and three blocks. Dewrock added four kills and a pair of digs while Wake finished with three kills and six digs.

"Jody has played really well so far," said Ort. "She's definitely stepped up."

Burrow led the way with 17 assists, while Jamie Jarrett finished three digs.

Kennett also won the jayvee game 25-15, 25-10.

The Lady Indians are in action again Tuesday when they host South Pemiscot.

At Broseley, Chelsea Crain held the Lady Tribe to three hits to record the shutout and keep Kennett off the board.

"We still have a lot of room for improvement," Kennett coach Laurie Vaughan said. "We face different situations each game and need to learn to adapt to the changes. We haven't been real successful with that yet. When we start clicking on all cylinders, great things will happen."

Kalee Gore, Kasey Ellis and Abbi Daniels had the Lady Indians' lone hits.

Laurel Jones took the loss for Kennett, allowing four runs (three earned) while striking out seven, walking one and scattering five hits over six innings.

The Lady Tribe next competes today and Saturday at the Notre Dame tournament in Cape Girardeau.

"We are looking forward to some great softball this weekend at the Notre Dame tournament," said Vaughan. "There will be 12 very talented teams competing. Our goal is to use this time to come together more as a team and learn to gel as a team. "

At Metz Cherry Stadium, the seventh-grade Indians came away with a thrilling 8-6 victory, while the freshmen squad lost 26-8 to the Pirates.

"It was a little rough," Kennett freshmen coach Phillip Campbell said. "Our line has got some work to do."

Darius Warren scored the Tribe's lone touchdown on a long third-quarter run.

"When he gets on the edge, he's dangerous," said Campbell.

In the seventh-grade contest, Kennett got on the board near the end of the third quarter when BJ Carr passed for a touchdown.

The Pirates scored a TD in the game's final minute, but the Tribe defense stopped the two-point conversion to seal the win.

Baseball
Senath-H'ville 10, Holcomb 0

At Senath, the Lions improved to 4-0 on the fall with their third straight 10-run victory.

Heath Horvath and Exon Moncada had three hits each, while Matt Fouts added two hits, one of them a two-run homer and Lincoln Tansil had a pair of hits.

"So far we've been swinging the bats pretty well ..." Senath-Hornersville coach Randy Smith said. "(Our guys) have been stepping up and have swung the bats well. If our pitch comes around, we have a chance to be pretty good."

Horvath and Zach King combined to pitch a three-hitter, with King pitching the last four innings of the five-inning contest.

SEMO Conference honors Tribe
Two Kennett Indians baseball players received recognition from the SEMO Conference for ther performance on the diamond back in the spring.
