Thomas D. "Buddy" Payne went to be with our Lord on Aug. 10, 2009. He was the son of the late Melvin Payne and Eula Lampkin Payne. Buddy was born in Bellville, Ark., in 1920 and moved to Missouri with his parents in 1935 and was a lifetime farmer.

Buddy married Sally Davis who preceded him in death in 1975. He later married Ruth Cuff in 1976.

Buddy was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge of Hornersville, Mo., also a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner. Buddy was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Buddy was preceded in death by one brother, Clinton Dale Payne and one grandson, Jared Payne.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Ruth Payne of Kennett; four sons and daughter in laws, Gordon and Debbie Payne, of Hayti, Mo., Tommy and Janet Payne, of Kennett, Randy and Sharron Payne, of White Hall, Ark., and Rick and Wendy Whitson, of Swartz Creek, Mich.; one daughter, Pat Sowel, of Athens, Ala.; three brothers, Alton Payne, of Rives, Mo., Norman Payne, of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Lyndon Payne, of Bakersville, Calif.; two sisters, Lavada Madden, of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Elouise Mugavero, of Kennett; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 2:30 p.m., today, Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009 at McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with Revs. Dale Rickman and Chris Maynard officiating with burial in Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Kennett.

Pallbearers were Jimmy McGee, Ronnie Williams, Rick Lomax, Phil Oldsen, Terry Scott and Kenny Paul Cuff.

Honorary pallbearers were J.C. Cuff, Terry Payne, Paul Cuff, Joe Bob Payne, Patrick Payne, Joe Ford, Danny Payne and Jeff Treat.
