Born July 29, 1935, in Savannah, Tenn., son of the late Leonard Terry and Hattie Mae Strickland Terry, he was retired as deputy sheriff in Cardwell, Mo., chief deputy in Kennett and chief of police in Clarkton and Holcomb. He was a volunteer with the Wappapello and Holcomb Fire Department.
On June 1, 1956, in Gideon, Mo., he married Wanda Gilkey, who survives.
Survivors also include two daughters, Janet Payne and husband, Tommy, of Kennett, and Lisa Cogburn, of Clarkton; one son, Brian Terry, of Wappapello; one brother, Elvin Terry, of Granite City, Ill.; three sisters, Virginia Livingston, of Moscow Mills, Mo., Mary James, of Bloomfield, Mo., and Elizabeth Chambers, of St. Peters, Mo.; nine grandchildren, John Pierce, of Bamberg, Germany, Jeremy Bibbs, of Hornersville, Mo., Heather Terry, of Oklahoma City, Okla., Sara Moody, of Kennett, Brian Terry II and Joshua Terry, both of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Shane Williams and Hannah Cogburn, both of Clarkton and T.J. O'Dell, of Wappapello, and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, Jared Payne and two brothers, Tommy and Roland Terry.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m., today, Thursday, Aug. 6, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden, Mo.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 7, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Blagg officiating. Burial will follow in the Stanfield Cemetery at Clarkton.
