Nolan Braden, 88, of Pollard, Ark., died Saturday, July 11, 2009, at the VA Hospital in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Born March 1, 1921, in Senath, Mo., son of the late James Oscar and Jennie Nuckolls Braden, he was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in WWII, and a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Pollard.

On May 2, 1942, in Piggott, Ark., he married Norene Brawner, who preceded him in death on June 17, 2006, after 64 years together. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Olin, his twin Elvis, Jerald and James and sisters, Wilma and Bonnie.

Survivors include two daughters, Joan Davis, of Kennett and Jean Ann Hooten, of Pollard; one son, David and wife, Vicki, of Pollard; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Georgia Marie Benfield and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., today, Tuesday, July 14, at the Hoggard & Sons Chapel in Piggott, Ark., with Gary Hancock officiating.

Burial was in the New Hope Cemetery.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Jeff Crittendon, Bill Hooten, Matt Hooten, Rick Braden, Tim Gibbs and Mike McGhee.

Honorary pallbearer was John Brawner.
