Nell D. Powell, 89, of Malden, Mo., died Thursday, July 9, 2009, at the Golden Living Center in Malden.
Born February 20, 1920, in Malden, the daughter of the late Sam G. Downing and Nellie B. Moore Downing, she was a retired bookkeeper for Powell Supply Co., a member of the Malden United Methodist Church, and a member of the Woman Society Methodist Church.
On October 8, 1938, in Caruthersville, Mo., she married Virgil Leon Powell, who preceded her in death on April 6, 2006.
She was also preceded by one granddaughter, Lisa Goessling; two sisters, Mary Ellis and Margaret Lay; three brothers, J. L. Downing; Sam Downing, Jr.; and John Downing; and one infant brother.
Survivors include one son, Sam Powell, and his wife Janice, of Malden; one grandson, Sam Powell, Jr., and his wife Elke, of Dexter, Mo.; three great-grandchildren, Andy Goessling; Caroline Goessling; and Emma Powell, all of Dexter; and nieces and nephews, Bill Lay, and his wife Judy, of Fayette, Mo.; Jim Ellis, and his wife Patty, of Vero Beach, Fla.; Martha Kaaz, and her husband Art, of Leavenworth, Kan.; Johnny Downing, and his wife Carol, of Malden; Martha Nell and Rick Twist, of Rogers Ark.; and Ann Downing, of San Antonio, Texas.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m., to service time, Saturday, July 11, 2009, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Malden.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, July 11, 2009, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Greg Dowler officiating.
Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Malden.
