The Navy rank of a newly commissioned officer is Ensign (Second Lieutenant is the equivalent rank in the Army, Air Force & Marines). Thought someone at the DDD should know this. That little bit of information aside, my congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. White, you should be very proud of your son's accomplishment.

I am the mother of Josh White. A graduate of the United States Naval Academy has a choice of being commissioned as an Ensign in the Navy or a 2nd Lt in the Marine Corp because the U.S. Marine Corp is a branch of the Department of the Navy. 264 graduates of USNA are chosen each year to be commissioned in the U.S. Marine Corp if they choose to be a Marine. My son'choice was to be a marine. He is currently at the basic school for marine officers in Quantico VA. DDD did not make a mistake. The uniform he is wearing in the picture is the Marine Corp Dress Blues, Navy graduates wear white.
