Investigators seize 6 dogs in need of medical attention
HAYTI HEIGHTS, MO. -- A search warrant executed at a residence at Hayti Heights on Monday, June 29, resulted in the removal of six Pit Bull Dogs in need of serious medical attention.
According to the Caruthersville Humane Society (CHS), the warrant was served following an investigation by the Bootheel Drug Task Force, the CHS, and the Humane Society of Missouri, revealing several pit bulls with injuries consistent with being in dog fights.
Four animals were recovered from the residence with information leading officers to two separate locations where more animals were taken, the CHS said.
Two of the animals were in critical condition, two were in serious condition, and two were in poor condition, according to authorities. The animals were covered in old and new scars, injuries, and infections, and one animal was having difficulty breathing, according to investigators.
The six dogs were taken into the custody by the CHS for evaluation and treatment and the owner agreed to surrender custody of the animals, authorities said.
"We are not sure if all of the animals will make it," said Erma Page, CHS manager.
"We will do our best to see if we can get them back to good health."
According to the CHS, other evidence was taken from the residence and charges are under consideration.
The Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department, the Wardell Chief of Police, and Hayti Police Officers assisted in the execution of the warrant.
