Joanna Faucett, a 24-year-old Campbell, Mo., woman charged with the second-degree murder of her infant daughter, appeared in court on Tuesday, June 23, with a hearing scheduled for July 22, 2009.

Faucett and her attorney, Public Defender Charles Hirth, appeared before Judge John C. Spielman, as did the state, represented by Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Stephen P. Sokoloff, with both sides announcing they were ready for the preliminary hearing.

According to Sokoloff, the evidence presented including a testimony by Sgt. Scott Rawson of the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control (DDCC), who stated he had interviewed Faucett, who initially said she did not know what happened to the child, but later admitted she had lied and had strangled the infant.

Also testifying was DDCC officer Don Windham, who stated that he performed the autopsy on the infant.

After hearing the evidence, the court found that there was probable cause to believe a felony had been committed and that the defendant was the one who committed the felony.

A hearing was then set for 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, in Dunklin County Circuit Court, Division I.

Faucett was arrested in May 2009 in connection with the death of her one-month-old daughter, after authorities discovered that the infant appeared to have been strangled to death. She remains in custody at the Dunklin County Justice Center on a $100,000 bond.

According to Assistant Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Jonce Chidister, the child was one of a set of triplets, however, the other infants were not at the home at the time of the incident.

In July 2008, Faucett had another infant who died at 16-days-old, believed at the time to be due to a co-sleeping incident.
