The search has ended for an inmate from the Missouri Department of Corrections prison in Charleston, Mo., who escaped while participating in a work release program for the Missouri Department of Transportation in Kennett on Monday.

According to Dunklin County Sheriff, Bob Holder, David Hill, 45, was working in the MoDOT maintenance building located on Route O in Kennett when he walked away from the work detail and fled the scene. He was under the direction of the Charleston prison, a spokesman said.

Law enforcement officials in the area including the local Sheriff's Department, Kennett police, and the Missouri Highway Patrol were immediately alerted, as was the United States Marshall's Office and the Missouri Department of Corrections. Search efforts ensued, with authorities canvassing several areas throughout Kennett and surrounding regions.

Hill remained on the loose; until investigators received a tip indicating that Hill might have possibly fled to Tennessee. The information proved to be right on target, as authorities expanded their search, eventually locating the escapee in Memphis, Tenn., on Tuesday.

Hill is being charged in Dunklin County for escape from confinement, according to Sheriff Holder.
