Senath man stabs in-law

Thursday, June 4, 2009

On Wednesday morning Senath police responded to a stabbing at 601 West Commercial Street in Senath.

According to Senath City Marshall Omar Karnes, Erick Barrientes, 19, of Senath, had been living with his sister and his brother-in-law at the residence.

Reports indicate the relatives had been trying to convince Barrientes to move from the residence for some time, which led to the windows being sealed with screws and the doors locked while Barrientes was away from the home on Tuesday night.

When he returned to the home, intoxicated, on Wednesday morning, he was able to get into the home through one of the windows, according to the residents.

Upon entry into the home, Barrientes was met by his brother-in-law Osvaldo Cuevas, 21, of the residence. Cuevas informed Barrientes that he was not welcome and needed to leave the residence. Barrientes attacked Cuevas and hit him in the side, according to Cuevas report. After the altercation, Cuevas walked outside of the home to wait for his ride to work. When his ride arrived he discovered blood on his side and realized that he had been stabbed by Barrientes during the scuffle, Cuevas noted.

Senath police responded to the incident and discovered that Cuevas had received an approximate four inch stab wound to his side.

Barrientes was arrested for assault in the first degree, burglary in the first degree, and armed criminal action, according to Karnes.

Karnes noted that Cuevas' wound caused a small amount of damage to his lung but to no other vital organs.

"He was very lucky," Karnes said.

Barrientes is currently being held in the Dunklin County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond and is awaiting the filing of formal charges by the Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

The judge needs to send a very firm and loud message that this behavior will not be tolerated, espically if the man that done the stabbing is illegal. The message needs to be that the citizens of this town will not tolerate this regardless of legal or illegal citizenship. This punk also was destroying our city park over the weekend. Glad he is off the streets. Do not house him in our jail if he is illegal deport him dont not add insult to injury by letting the taxpayers feed him and clothe him, deportation would be the ultimate punishment.

and its always the people there are here from Mexico, have you ever noticed that the majority of the houses where they live have like 10-20 ppl living in them? Thats not right and most of them are illegal to boot it.

If i was renting a house, it would be in a contract no overcrowding

Man you people sound like a bunch of hot heads who are prejudice. If you have a problem with people regardless of their race then complain to the right people like your city council or somebody with some type of power. It's always easy to blame but hard to find a answer.

hang'em high seemed like the only intelligent poster here. His English seems perfectly fine....was Skeptisch being sarcastic?

I guess this guy now will have a place to stay and 3 squares.....all at taxpayers expense.

This is just another example of why this country is in a "heap" of trouble. We have got to get this immigration problem solved.....but it is not going to happen. If you want to guard the borders...the liberal media paints you as inhumane and mean. Plus....Obama and his followers want a whole bunch of poor people here so they can dominate all future elections.

Pay no taxes....get gov't handouts.....guarantee Democrat liberals winning elections.

And to think....I used to vote Democrat....but that party no longer exists.
