Car&Bike Show a success

The Best of Show in the car division of the 4th Annual Garrett Short Car and Bike Show went to Bill and Phyllis Johns of Kennett for this 1941 Willys Coupe.

The Fourth Annual Garrett Short Car and Bike Show was hosted on Saturday at the Delta Fairgrounds and raised money for the Garrett Short Athletic Memorial Scholarship.

Registration for the event was from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., and the event took place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Show classes for the event consisted of Antiques, Originals, Late Models, Modified Trucks, Street Rods, Foreign Cars, American and Foreign Motorcycles, Choppers and Customs, and Under Construction. Trophies were presented for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in each category, along with Best of Show, Longest Distance Traveled, and Viewer's Choice awards.

The Viewer's Choice winner received free admission into next year's event as a prize.

During the event, crowds could see the several cars and bikes registered for the event, take part in the silent auction, and enjoy the various entertainment.

This entertainment consisted of Andy Sherrod and Friends, Brianna Burcham, Jordan Shelton, Kennett School of Performing Arts, Tumbling Tribe, American Taekwondo Association, Arise by FBC Senath, and 'Grace Proven' of Steele, Mo.

Also on hand at the event was radio station 105.5, who covered the show with a live remote from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

"A lot of people came to just look at the different cars and bikes," one of the event representatives, Deb Stokley, said. "Overall, everything went really well, and it will hopefully be even bigger next year."

Best of Show in the car division was Bill and Phyllis Johns of Kennett, while Best of Show in the motorcycle division went to Larry Sawyers of Caruthersville, Mo.

The trophy for Longest Distance Traveled was presented to Ron Holden of Scott City, Mo., and the Viewer's Choice award went to Josh Webb of Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Other 1st place winners included Antique Cars and Trucks 1896-1949, Kennett Fire Department; Original Cars 1950-1969, Larry Webb of Kennett; Original Cars 1970-1993, Josh Webb of Poplar Bluff; Original Trucks 1950-1993, James Hamm of Campbell; Late Model Cars 1994-Present, Leah Mobley of Kennett; Late Model Trucks 1994-Present, Dustin Diggs of Kennett; Modified Trucks, Andrew Cook of Kennett; Street Rods, Calvin and Norma Hartsfield of Malden; Under Construction, Gaylon Weaver of Kennett; Foreign Cars, Kenneth McKinney of Kennett; American Motorcycles, Dennis Wallace of Kennett; Foreign Motorcycles, Dennis Pickard of Kennett; Choppers and Customs, Bob McMahon of Kennett; and Most Unique Entry, Lexie Wrather of Kennett.

All proceeds from the event support the Garrett Short Athletic Memorial Scholarship, which is given annually to graduating seniors at Kennett High School.
