Winners chosen in Gideon's campus-wide youth writing contest

Several students at the Gideon School District recently competed in a campus wide writing contest in an effort to promote effective writing. Winners received medals, T-shirts, and certificates.

GIDEON, Mo. -- Winners have been chosen following a campus-wide writing contest at the Gideon School District.

Students from fifth through 11th-grade participated in the campus-wide contest by writing poetry, essays, and orations. According to Denise Yount, Reading Specialist/Reading Programs Coordinator with the Gideon District, the contest was held in an effort to promote effective writing among youth.

Winners were chosen in different categories from each grade. Winners received a medal, a T-shirt, and a certificate.

In the fifth-grade poetry contest, Ciara Muse won first place, Dalen Hutchison won second, and Erin Calvert won third.

In the fifth-grade writing contest, Cassidy Robinson won first, Jalen Walls won second, and Caleb Buchanan won third. Honorable mention went to Erin Calvert.

In the sixth-grade poetry contest, first place went to Brittany Loman, second place went to Blake Hampton, and third place went to Brooke Lawson. Logan Cossey received an honorable mention.

In the sixth-grade writing contest, Darian Muse won first place, Joselyn Riggs won second place, and Sara Landers won third place. Camille Randolph and Brooke Earnheart received honorable mentions.

In the seventh-grade writing contest, Krista Riggs won first place, Justin Shock won second place, and Breanna Berry won third place. Nikki Johnson received an honorable mention.

In the eighth-grade poetry contest, Chelsey Ogden took first, Jordan DeProw took second, and Samantha Landers took third. Honorable mention went to Jimmy Morlan.

In the eighth-grade writing contest, Will Rudd won first place, Chelsey Ogden won second place, and Jordan DeProw won third place.

In the ninth-grade writing contest, Alexa Grissom won first place, Hannah Moore won second place, and Christine Marlow won third place. Kassi Lawrence received an honorable mention.

In the 10th-grade writing contest, Billie Marshall won first place, Brooke Spears won second, and Hayley Rudd won third. Slayton Boon received an honorable mention.

In the 11th-grade poetry contest, Emily Henderson won first place, Jessica Lee won second place, and Cody Hastings won third place. Curtis Miller received an honorable mention.
