Both squads won their respective divisions at the Kennett Invitational at Metz Cherry Stadium, with the boys outdistancing second-place Malden 161-114 and the Lady Indians edging SEMO Central foe New Madrid County Central 159-144 in the multi-team event.
"I'd say that the boys are progressing well, but they've got some things that we need to work on," Kennett coach Marc Sherrell said. "The girls are getting better but we've (also) got a lot of work we need to do"

Kennett's relay teams dominated as three of the four brought home gold. Taking home first-place finishes were the 4x200 team of Lavonte Hickman, Devin Guyton, Jerry Hodges and Gooden, the 4x100-relay team of Hickman, Guyton, Rakeem Williams and Johnny Hodges and the 4x400-relay squad with Johnson, Travon Weeden, Johnny Hodges and Gooden.

On the girls side, depth was the order of the day.
While the Lady Tribe won four events, Kennett racked up strong finishes in several others to outdistance the competition.

Both squads won't have long to enjoy their triumphs as Kennett is back in action Thursday at the Riverbend Classic in New Madrid.
"The boys are kind of walking through things, but with the girls it's going to be a fight to the finish with New Madrid in it," said Sherrell. "They've got a lot of talent and with the girls of Kennett and New Madrid, it's going to come down to whoever wants it the most."
