The Hornersville, Mo., man charged with stabbing another man from the small rural community appeared in court last month and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for this Friday.

On Tuesday, March 17, Richard L. Forrister, 19, appeared with his attorney, Terry McVey, of Kennett, in front of Judge John C. Spielman, and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for 9 a.m., on Friday, April 17.

Forrister is being charged with second degree murder and armed criminal action following an altercation at Hornersville that lead to the death of Adam Cockerham, 20, at a party at Cockerham's residence in mid-February.

Following his arrest, Forrister was interviewed by Sgt. Dennis Rainey and Sgt. William Cooper, both of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

According to a probable cause statement by Rainey, during the interview, Forrister admitted to stabbing Cockerham, who later died as a result of the injury.

Rainey's statement continued by saying that according to Forrister, on Feb. 14, he attended a party at Cockerham's home, located on Main Street in Hornersville.

Forrister said he had gotten into an altercation with another local resident in Cockerham's front yard, when Cockerham, who was also outside, began telling them to stop fighting, which they finally did. After the fight, Cockerham and Forrister had a confrontation, according to the Sergeant.

Forrister went on to say that Cockerham came toward him and pushed him against a tree. Forrister then retrieved a folding knife from his pocket and unfolded it, according to Rainey's statement.

Rainey went on to say that at this point, Forrister said Cockerham charged at him and he attempted to grab Cockerham's shoulders. When that happened, he stabbed Cockerham in the neck with the knife. Cockerham immediately fell to the ground while Forrister fled on foot.

Forrister was asked by the authorities if Cockerham had a weapon and, according to Rainey, he said he did not.

Cockerham was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries.

Forrister was arrested and charged with the class A felony of murder in the second degree and the felony of armed criminal action.

This Richard person looks higher than a kite in this picture. No wonder he can't tell the truth, he's a dope head. My nephew, Adam, did not attack him and it will be proven in court soon enough. Adam was murdered simply because he was defending a friend. Only cowards use weapons. Richard's parents should be very proud to have a murderer for a son. The whole family and there is many of us will be there for the trial so that we can rejoice when they give Richard life in prison, really would prefer death. I love you Adam. Aunt Debbie

This man is a coward. I cant even call him a man a real man wouldnt have done what he did. Hes a boy who deserves nothing more than to rot in jail for the rest of his life.
