Christine Pickens, 85, of Senath, Mo., died Thursday, March 5, 2009, at National HealthCare in Kennett,
Born May 2, 1923, in Hayti, Mo., daughter of the late John Wilburn Baynes and Mamie Elizabeth Henley Baynes, she was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Senath.
On April 23, 1938, she married William Walter "Bill" Pickens, who preceded her in death on Nov. 3, 1995. She was also preceded in death by one son, Donald Ray Pickens; two daughters, Shirley Jean Hurst and Reeda Faye Lumsden; three sisters, Ellen Crockrell, Alice Daniel and Lillian Fleming, and four brothers, Rufus, Jim , David and William Earnest Baynes.
Survivors include one son, Jerald Wayne Pickens and wife, Mary, of Kennett; four daughters, Pat Wilson and husband, Lanny, of Kennett, Elizabeth Nelan and husband, Pat, of Port Orange, Fla., and Joann Pickens and Brenda Newman and husband, Gary, all of Senath; 14 grandchildren, two raised in the home, Larry Wayne Hurst and wife, Carmen and Glenn David Hurst and wife, Somer; 29 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Baynes and wife, Purlie and Lloyd Baynes; two sisters, Earnstine Archibald and Ruth Marshall and husband, Frank and other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, March 7, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.
