Virginia Melton, 84, of Qulin, Mo., died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Born April 18, 1924, in Qulin, daughter of the late William Edward and Lougenia Sommers, she was a retired housekeeper at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center and a member of the Qulin Church of Christ.

On July 2, 1960, in Poplar Bluff, she married Albert Harold Melton, who preceded her in death on Oct. 29, 1992. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Irene Vancil, Rilla Pope and Cora Roberson and four brothers, Homer, Odis, Percy and James Vancil.

Survivors include one daughter, ZoAnn Bass and husband, Jimmy, of Fayetteville, N.C.; two sons, Charles Edward Melton, of Qulin and Howard D. Jones, of Jefferson City, Mo., and four grandchildren, Albert Charles and William Jackson Bass, both of Fayetteville, and Patrick and Preston Jones, both of Columbia, Mo.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Landess Funeral Home in Campbell, Mo.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel with Don Eubanks officiating.

Burial will follow in the Qulin Cemetery.
