James McLarty

James Elra McLarty, 79, of Hornersville, Mo., died Jan. 31, 2009, at his residence.

Born Nov. 17, 2009, the son of the late Robert and Beulah Stephens McLarty, he was a retired Memphis City School teacher, and active member of the Hornersville American Legion, Post # 362, the Farmers & Merchants Club, a member of the Hornersville First United Methodist Church, and a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Penny Droke McLarty, one daughter, Angela Goldberg and husband, Michael, of Memphis, Tenn., one son, James McLarty, of Colorado Springs, Colo., one grandson, Nathan McLarty, of Colorado, and one sister, Kate Rodgers, of Oxford, Miss.

He was preceded in death by seven siblings, Edna, Joseph, Mary Sue, John Henry, Juanita, W.E. "Bo," and Carlene.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, at the Methodist Church in Hornersville, Mo., with Rev. Jim Pemberton officiating.

Burial was in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kennett.

Pallbearers were Andy, Brad, and Skyler Droke, Brian McLarty, Shane McLarty, and Shawn Bennett.

Memorials may be made to the First Methodist Church general fund in Hornersville, Mo.
