An Arkansas man was arrested on Wednesday following a short vehicle pursuit by Dunklin County authorities.

Jesus Manuel Rangel, of Arkansas, was arrested after assaulting his wife on Highway 108 near Arbyrd, Mo., on Wednesday.

The accident and dispute involving Rangel and wife began when he rammed his vehicle into the rear of his wife's vehicle causing her vehicle to run into a ditch.

After the accident occurred, Rangel exited his vehicle and assaulted his wife with a weapon, causing injuries. She was then transported by helicopter to The Med in Memphis where she is being treated for her injuries.

Rangel proceeded to flee the scene in a vehicle, owned by an individual who had stopped to assist the victim.

Authorities arrested Rangel approximately 30 minutes later on Highway 164, following a short high-speed pursuit.

Rangel is currently facing charges of one count of first degree assault, one count of first degree robbery, two counts of armed criminal action, as well as a felony charge of resisting arrest. He is currently being held at the Dunklin County Justice Center on a $100,000 cash only bond.

Rangel made his initial appearance in court on Friday, Jan. 23. At that time, his arraignment was scheduled for 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27.

Authorities involved in the chase include the Dunklin County Sheriff's Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Cardwell Police Department, Arbyrd Police Department, and Hornersville Police Department.

Officers from Leachville, Ark.; Manila, Ark.; and the Craighead County Sheriff's Office also assisted in the investigation.
