James Floyd Bowen, Sr., 74, of Dexter, Mo., died Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at Golden Living Center in Dexter.

Born Sept. 9, 1934, in Mayflower, Ark., he was the son of the late Floyd and Sara Millie Self Bowen.

On March 5, 1960, in St. Louis, Mo., he married Virginia Bell, who survives.

Survivors also include two sons, James F. Bowen, Jr., of Sugar Hill, Ga., and Michael A. Bowen, of DeSoto, Mo.; three daughters, Stella Ann Shahan, of Sugar Hill, and Tina Lee Gunter and Debra Jean Hunt, both of Bernie; one brother, Richard Bowen, of Fenton, Mo.; five sisters, Pearl Holt, of Dexter, Ruth Richardson, of Canalou, Mo., Ola Holt, of New Madrid, Mo., Imogene Cochran, of Peoria, Ill., and Ada Gwen Bowen, of Bernie; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Bowen.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 16, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden, Mo.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 16, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bill Garrett officiating.
