Doise Winfred lack, 85, of Corning, Ark., formerly of Piggott, Ark., died Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould, Ark.

Born Nov. 17, 1923, in Clay County, Ark., son of the late Tom and Bertha Brawner Lack, he was a truck driver and a member of the Church of Christ at Greenway, Ark.

On Oct. 23, 1943, he married Vernie Rattliff, who preceded him in death on Jan. 12, 2006. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Dwight and Paul Thomas Lack and one sister, Madeline Bell.

Survivors include one son, James Lack and wife, Sharlene, of Kennett; one daughter, Dian Herren and husband, Douglas, of Corning, Ark.; three grandchildren, Tessa Dees, Melody French and Brian Herren, and one great-granddaughter, Nyla Dees.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 11, in the Piggott Cemetery with Bro. Topper Killough officiating.

Eugene Gramling

Eugene "Gene" Gramling, 84, of Walcott, Ark., formerly of Kennett, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at St. Lukes Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla.

Born Jan.31, 1924, in Walcott, son of the late Estes and Cordie Gramling, he was a U.S. veteran of WWII, retired from Arkansas Highway Department in Paragould, Ark., and a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Walcott.

Survivors include his wife, Clara Gramling of the home; two sons, Larry Gramling, of Paragould and Terry Gramling of Memphis, Tenn.; one daughter, Regina Garrett, of Jacksonville; one brother, Stan Gramling, of Cabot, Ark.; two sisters, Maxine Ward, of Aurora, Mo., and Madonna Stewart, of Walcott; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Frankie, Boband Malcolm Gramling, and one sister, Aledene Tinkle.

A formal memorial celebration will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 17, at Walcott State Park with Revs. Sam Stewart and Marion Gramling officiating. All family and friends are invited to attend.
