Evelyn "Big Mama" Turnage, 91, of Hayti, Mo., died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at the nursing home in Hayti.
Born July 27, 1917, in Hornbeak, Tenn., daughter of the late Robert and Roxie Steward Keith, she was a homemaker and a member of the Hayti First Baptist Church.
On April 5, 1934, in Obion, Tenn., she married Lewis Turnage, who preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 1990. She was also preceded in death by three sons, Jim, John and Gene Turnage; three brothers, Alvin, Russell and Hubert Keith; one sister, Thelma Bishop and one grandson, Jeremy Adam Gurley.
Survivors include one son, Bob Turnage and wife, Peggy, of Hayti; two daughters-in-law, Pat Turnage and Norma Sue Turnage, both of Hayti; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at the First Baptist Church in Hayti with Dr. Tony Cherry officiating.
Burial was in the Hornbeak Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bob, Scott, Van, Randy, Tony and Chris Turnage.
Honorary pallbearers were deacons from the Hayti First Baptist Church.
John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti was in charge of arrangements.
