Charlotte Williams, 89, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
Born March 4, 1919, in Malden, Mo., daughter of the late Frank Mitchell and Mary Francis Batson, she was a graduate of Clarkton High School, a nurse at Pemiscot Memorial Health Systems in Hayti, a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women's Circle and a recipient of the Presbyterian Women Honorary Life Membership. She was a 50 year member of the Kennett Chapter 211 Order of the Eastern Star, Past Matron and Past District Deputy Grand Matron of the 51st District, Past Worthy High Priestess of the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, a 50 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 88, and the International grand Cross of the Color and Past Mother Advisor of the International Order of the Rainbow Girls.
On June 24, 1945, in Friendship, Mo., she married Wylie Leonard Williams, who preceded her in death.. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Farley and Ruth Hilderbrand and one brother, David Batson.
Survivors include one daughter, Phyllis McDowell, of Caruthersville; one sister, Esther B. Prince, of San Jose, Calif., and one granddaughter, Tina McDowell, of Memphis.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 31, at the First Presbyterian Church in Caruthersville with Dr. Paul Currie officiating.
Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery at Campbell, Mo.
Pallbearers were Cory Miller, Kevin, Adam and Chris Riggs, Charles Arnold and Chris Hall.
John W. German Funeral Home in Hayti, Mo., was in charge of arrangements.
