Polly Estelle Clayton, 74, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008 at the Caruthersville Nursing Center.
Born Aug. 16, 1934 at Caruthersville, the daughter of the late W.R. "Bill" Hayden and Beatrice Crowe Hayden, she was a 1952 graduate of Caruthersville High School and a member of Sacred Heart Parish. She was a bookkeeper and co-establisher of Pemiscot Office Supply of Caruthersville.
On Nov. 8, 1953, she married Ralph Earl Clayton, who preceded her in death on Jan. 4, 2006. She was also preceded in death by one sister and five brothers.
Survivors include one daughter, Teresa Tidwell, and husband Tom, of Caruthersville; three sons, Tommy Clayton, and wife Karen, of Caruthersville, Steve Clayton, of Bowling Green, Mo., and Kendall Clayton, of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; five sisters, Elaine Tillman, Mary Lynn, and Martha Cole, all of Caruthersville, Jane LaPlavy, of Ashland, Wis., and Barbara Jo Sullivan, of Smithville, Ark.; two brothers, Mike Hayden, of North Kansas City, Mo., and Bob Hayden, of Fenton, Mo.; three grandchildren, Clay Richardson, of Hayti, Mo., Kimberly Sullivan and Brittany Clayton, both of Caruthersville; and one great-grandchild, Dallas Richardson, of Caruthersville.
Funeral mass was held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 23, at Sacred Heart Church with Randy Tochtrop officiating.
Burial was in Little Prairie Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Clay Richardson, Tyler Sullivan, Mark Tillman, Frank Thrasher, Gary Figgins, and John Karnes.
H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville was in charge of the arrangements.
