Born Dec. 27, 1928, in Greenway, Ark., son of the late Sydney Mack and Stella Mae Bateman, he was a farmer and was employed at Cotyner Bevinghton at Blytheville, Ark.., and Emerson Electric of Kennett.
Survivors include wife, Joyce Bateman, of Rector; one son, Bruce Bateman, of Franklin, Tenn.; one step-son, John Todd Lawrence; one daughter, Sherrie Hernandous, of California; two step-daughters, Karen Renae Murray, of Paragould, Ark., and Sharon Denise Tone, of Rector; four brothers, Velius Bateman, of Marmaduke, Ark., Jerry Bateman, of Knobel, Ark., and Wallace and Darrell Bateman, of Michigan; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Harrison Bateman and three sisters, Ann Kahn, Berniece Morris and Bonnie Davis.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 21, at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Rector.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Dec. 22, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will follow in the Woodland Heights Cemetery.
