Pauline Burton Spain, daughter of the late Sid and Lena Carrington Burton, was born Aug. 12, 1917, in Darden, Tenn., and passed away Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark., at the age of 91.
She married James Spain, who preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 1997. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Kathleen Chandler, Lillion Clark and Dorothy Looney.
Mrs. Spain was a member of the First Baptist Church, President of the local NALC of Letter Carriers, Member of Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher Organization for 28 years, a member of NEA, AEA and CTA, and a retired teacher of North School, Senath Schools and Cardwell Schools for 42 years.
Survivors include one nephew, Jerry Wayne Clark, of Reno, Nev.; three nieces, Jane Ellen Barrett, of Jonesboro, Diane Masters, of Senath, Mo., and Jo Ann Kirby, of Houston, Texas, and several great-nieces and great-nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., today, Wednesday, Dec. 10, at the First Baptist Church in Senath with Rev. Doug Clinton officiating, assisted by Rev. Kevin Sullivan.
Burial was in the Senath Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Jonathon Masters, Myles Barrett, Burt Barrett, Don Barrett, Mike Masters and John Cates.
McDaniel Funeral Home of Senath was in charge of arrangements.
