Born on July 12, 1927 to John and Ruth (Malone) Cude in Cardwell, Mo., and moved to Spring Lake in 1951. John served overseas in the United States Army between World War II and the Korean War. He was a self-employed auto salesman and auto body repairman who was an avid flea market vendor at the Muskegon Farmers' Market and the Spring Lake Heritage Festival.
John is survived by his wife, Betty; his daughters, Dawn Cude, of Muskegon, Mich., and Deb (Scott) Kelly-Austhof, of Grand Haven, Mich.; his special daughter, Lori Gomez-Payne, of Muskegon; his son, Dan (Joann) Cude, of Cary, N.C.; his grandchildren, Kelli and Matthew Austhof, Jason (Ann) Cude, and Kara (Kurt) Millson; his great grandchild, Annabel. Also surviving are John's sisters, Glenda Lou (Max) Higgins, of Arbyrd, Mo., and Helen Cater, of Manila, Ark.; his brother, Kenneth (Shirley) Cude, of Kennett, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Orville and Ammie Cude.
The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008 at the Charles A. Conklin American Legion Post 28 in Grand Haven.
