Zula Brown

Zula Mae Brown, daughter of the late Omrie Lee Horton and Ollie Mae (Snider) Horton was born March 25, 1907 in New Hope, Tenn. and departed this life on Nov. 8, 2008 at the age of 101 years, 7 months and 13 days.

Zula married Bennie Mitchell (B.M.) Brown on Dec. 11, 1926 in Kennett, Missouri. B.M. preceded her in death on April 10, 1987.

Survivors include one daughter, Neola Miller, of Kennett; 10 grandchildren, Dan and Debra Brown, of Troy, Mo., Vicki and Carl Romhilt, of Hayti, Mo., Gary and Karen Brown, of Kennett, Jeff and Becky Brown, of Senath, Mo., Bruce and Crystal Miller, of Cordova, Tenn., Keith Johnson, of Graceville, Fla., Kevin Johnson, of Rockford, Ill., Brian Johnson, of Rockford, Ill., Chandra Isom, Ralph and Linda Derrick; 18 great-grandchildren, Lisa and Bart Tomlinson, of Olive Branch, Miss., David and Jan Derrick, of Cordova, Tenn., Caleb and Amy Brown, of Eolia, Mo., Amanda "Mande" and Guy Grimstead, of Palm Desert, Calif., Jason and Tonya Romhilt, of Hayti, Mo., Jamey and Tasha Romhilt, of Hayti, Mo., Emily Haywood, of Kennett, Alyssa Brown, of Kennett, Tokea Miller, of Cordova, Tenn., Josiah Miller, of Cordova, Tenn., Joy Johnson Battle, of Graceville, Fla., Hope Johnson Bridwell, of Graceville, Fla., Faith Johnson, of Miami, Fla., Lacey Johnson, of Rockford, Ill., Melanie Johnson, of Rockford, Ill., Brittney Johnson, of Rockford, Ill., Courtney Johnson, of Rockford, Ill., and Joshua Johnson, of Rockford, Ill.; eight great-great-grandchildren, Parker and Logan Tomlinson, of Olive Branch, Miss., Enoch and Faith Brown, of Eolia, Mo., Mitch and Eric Romhilt, of Hayti, Mo., Blake Romhilt, of Hayti, Mo., and Tyce and Gavin Koerner, of Rockford, Ill., and other relatives and many friends.

Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by two sons, Mitchell Lee Otis "Sam" Brown and Charles Lee Brown; one daughter, Dortha Mae Johnson; one granddaughter, Linda Darlene Derrick; seven brothers, Lawson Dupree Horton, George Wylie Washington Horton, Charlie Franklin Horton, Carl Edward Horton, Will Parker Horton, Billy James Horton, and Lee Horton; and two sisters, Viola H. Horton and Truly Estell Woody.

Visitation was from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, Nov. 10 at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., today, Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Friendship Baptist Church in Kennett with Rev. Doug Clinton officiating.

Burial was in the Oak Ridge Cemetery at Kennett.
