Mellie Whitehead, 100, of Fredricktown, Mo., formerly of Qulin, Mo., died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, at Stockoff Nursing Home in Fredricktown.
Born April 24, 1908, in Cotton Plant, Ark., she was a member of the Lone Prairie Baptist Church.
On May 1, 1926, in Arkansas, she married Cecil Whitehead, who preceded her in death on May 27, 1970. She was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Keith Whitehead and Terry Tidwell; one great-grandson, Jarrod Hefner and a son-in-law, Jerry Hefner.
Survivors include four daughters, Zoetta Hill and husband, Frank and Frances Hefner, all of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Margaret Tidwell and husband, Dale, of Fredricktown and Barbara Johnson and husband, Jerry, of Crystal City, Mo.; two sons, Harold Whitehead and wife, Laverne, of Maryland Heights, Mo., and James Whitehead and wife, Pam, of Bonne Terre, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Kerry and Todd Whitehead, Steve Tidwell, Scott and Tom Johnson, David Hefner, Angela Lazalier and Karen Clark; 15 great-grandchildren, Taylor and Ethan Tidwell, Chris, Jamie and Lucas Whitehead, Ryan and Amanda Johnson, Ashlee, Wyatt and Garrett Lazalier, Jessica, Jordan, Ally and Anna Hefner and Bradey Clark and two great-great-grandchildren, Jack Ernest and Ivan Emerson.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel in Malden with the Rev. Don Mayo officiating.
Burial was in the Qulin Cemetery.
