Becky Lynn Stewart, 36, of Charleston, Mo., died Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, at St. Louis University Medical Center in St. Louis, Mo.

She was born Feb. 6, 1972, in Flint, Mich., daughter of Betty Jones Temples, who survives of Dexter, Mo. She moved to Dexter in 1974, and following completion of her seventh grade year moved to Paris, Tenn., where she graduated from Henry County High School in 1990. Receiving a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education from Murray State University she then attended Southeast Missouri State University where she received a Masters of Arts in Administration and then Specialist in Education Degree in May 2001. In 1995 Becky began her career in education in Bloomfield, Mo., and remained in the Bloomfield school system until 1998. During that time she worked in several areas; a third grade teacher responsible for all curricular areas, At-Risk Classroom teaching Mathematics and Reading to third, fourth and fifth grade students, Kindergarten teacher responsible for all curricular areas, Middle school athletic activity sponsor, assistant to Principal in implementing the summer school program, elementary building representative, and chairman of the MSP Differentiated Instruction Committee. In August 1998 she moved to Charleston and was employed as the Assistant Principal of Hearnes Elementary School, where in 2000 she was named to her current position as the Principal. Always seeking to improve the educational setting for students and colleagues, Becky was instrumental in submitting grant proposals for Bloomfield and Charleston School Systems. She held memberships in CTA, International Reading Association as a Reading Specialist, The Missouri State Association of Elementary School Principals, The SEMO Association of the Elementary School Principals, and the Leadership Academy. As a member of the Miner Baptist Church she assisted in the AWANAS youth program, and was a member of the Charleston Junior Bible Study Club, the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and served on the Board of Directors of the Shining Light Mission.

On June 14, 1997, she married Shane Stewart, who survives of the home in Charleston.

Also surviving besides her husband are one son, Jake Thomas Stewart, and one daughter, Madelynn Michelle Stewart, both of the home in Charleston; her parents, Bill and Betty Temples, of Dexter; one sister and brother-in-law, Michelle and David Terrell, of Sikeston, Mo.; brother-in-law, Jeff Stewart, of Kennett; maternal grandmother, Jerry Davis, of Dexter; her mother and fathers-in-law, Nick and Ada Robinson, of Kennett and Ken Stewart, of Springfield, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her grand-grandmother, Fleta May Jones.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. until 9 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Miner Baptist Church, 416 State Rt. H, Sikeston, Mo., where funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 26, with Pastor Mitch Jackson officiating.

Burial will follow in the Dexter City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be the Missouri State Highway Patrol Honor Guard,
