For the second year in a row, members of the community joined together to have a little fun while raising money for a local charity through a golf outing at the Kennett Country Club.

The Second Annual Delta Children's Home Kennett Cup Golf Tournament was held on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, and featured the Gold Team against the Black Team.

A total of 60 individuals participated in this years tournament. The entry fee for the tournament was $50 per individual; half of which would go to the winning team and half would be donated to the Delta Children's Home. Schilp Dodge also agreed to match the losing teams contribution.

For the second year, the Gold Team, led by Roger Wheeler, Jr., won the event, and as a sign of their generosity, donated its $1,500 win to the DCH.

That donation, along with another $50 donation resulted in a total of $4,550 being donated on behalf of the tournament.

"I think everybody had a great time," said Harold Perkins, Kennett Cup board member.

"[The Kennett Cup Board of Directors] do not keep any of the money. Every penny that comes in goes out. We know where it's going and it goes to a good cause. That can only happen in a community like Kennett," Perkins continued.

According to Perkins, Dave Schilp, of Schilp Dodge in Kennett, came up with the idea for the tournament last year. Perkins then suggested that the proceeds go to the DCH.

"The board's ambition is to get [the tournament] up to 80 or 100 people. That would be a great donation to the [DCH]," Perkins said.

The winning team will have their names inscribed on a plaque at the Kennett Country Club. The plaque is a gift from Schilp Dodge.

Members of the Gold Team included Captain Roger Wheeler, Jr., Mike Walker, Steve Phillips, Chad Pritchett, Mark Moore, James Stacy, Jonathan Mays, Van Winton, Jim Williams, Doug Bauschlicher, Tom Vanruden, Matt Poole, Don Alford, Palmer Pelham, Marty Johnson, David Lawrence, Ryan Bauschlicher, Gary Simmons, Gerald Granger, Russ McCain, Jeff Lack, Ken Johnson, Daryl Wilcoxson, Roger Wheeler, Sr., Dennis Robertson, Darren Robertson, Jim Reynolds, Patrick McHaney, Steven Pelham, and Randy Kiefner.

Members of the Black Team included Captain Donnie Shelton, David Schilp, Jerry Knoble, Bud Hunt, Chris Brannon, C.H. Young, Mike Hunter, Mark Wallace, Chris Wake, Corey Walker, Bob Redman, Tony Parr, Brian Mitchell, Doug Bradley, Jerry Jones, Mike Lindsey, Andy Johnson, Dusty Pritchett, Jeff Bazzell, John Robertson, Neal Gibbons, Joe Rister, Rodger Pritchett, Tim McPherson, David Lynn, George Byers, Keith Grantham, Darren Harris, Matt Shetley, and Eric WIlliams.

Those involved would like to say a special "thank you" to Brian Mitchell for his extra contributions towards the tournament.
