Hill Harper, co-star of the television show CSI:New York, and long time friend of Barack Obama was in Kennett Friday at the Democratic Headquarters for the Obama for President Rally.

Greeted by Obama supporters, Harper discussed the importance of registering to vote and voting in the upcoming election.

Harper had this to say, "I happen to be a former classmate of Senator Barack Obama, he and I went to Harvard Law School together, and were classmates there. I have been friends with Senator Obama for 20 years now."

"I am so proud to be here in Kennett representing the campaign, so proud to be in Kennett. Kennett is a critical, critical city and area when it comes to this next election. There is not a more important area than the Bootheel of Missouri in the entire country. Missouri is such a closely competitive state and the way the election works, I am sure many of you know, it is about whoever gets the 270 Electoral College votes first on November 4th, and what is critical about that is the winner takes all, state by state, so it is really 50 individual state by state elections."

Harper continued, "It is critical for the Obama campaign, and I think for the future of this country, that Missouri votes for Senator Obama. The reason why is, because we are currently experiencing an incredible economic crisis. We are seeing that our reputation around the world has been hurt. And we are also noticing, and seeing that the way our great country works. And the reason why I believe this is the greatest country in the world, is that we live in a participatory democracy, but that participatory democracy only works if people participate."

"We have seen voter registration declined; we have seen folks not come out to vote and so we want everyone to get educated about the issues, and know that we can have a change come November, and it is a change we can believe in."

While in Kennett, Harper was informed by Bernice Crow, the mother of Singer Sheryl Crow, that her newest compact disc awaits those people, who registers three new people to vote.

How long can this town seriously thrive on Sheryl Crow. Yes she had a good couple of albums HOW MANY YEARS AGO?? But come on "THE HOMETOWN OF SHERYL CROW?" Get a life and stop trying to say hey look at us we have a famous person who came from here!! I live in Kennett my whole life until I escaped about 5 years ago. I can't belive they are trying to bribe people into getting more voters by offering one of her albums. Get a life outside that twilight zone you call a town. If you have to say someting to me in a negative way about what I said refer to that next to last sentence of this.

I agree with much of what you said atn55. The issues that are important to us as a society, as a whole, are what should be debated or discussed. Lets talk about what we would like to see change. Something has to... Thanks for the input everyone. I enjoy reading what everyone has to say.

Has intelligence left Kennett too? Discuss issues instead of regurgitating the garbage of spinmeisters. It's starting to get annoying!

Do you feel the economic pinch? How much are you paying for gas and groceries? Are you concerned about healthcare costs? Where is Bin Laden? Why hasn't he been captured and killed yet? Should we be in Iraq or Afghanistan or neither? What is our responsibility to our fellow citizens, our community or should we just be concerned with ourselves; our own family? Let's debate/discuss these questions.

Think seriously about who you vote for because this country needs INTELLIGENT, calm, rational, thoughtful leadership to solve this country's problems. We are in serious trouble.

It doesn't matter if a majority of the Bootheel sees the light and votes for Obama. It only matters that Obama pick up additional votes in the Bootheel to help him win Missouri as a whole.

Obama has never been a "good friend" of William Ayers, though the truth is often more complicated than a lie.

Obama was 8 years old when Ayers was a terrorist. They now live in the same Chicago university neighborhood, and because Ayers is a liberal and Obama is seen as one as well, Ayers was one of many residents who held a living-room session to introduce Obama to voters early in Obama's career.

Mayor Richard M. Daley, himself neither a terrorist nor a leftist, strongly supports Obama. Since the '60s, Ayers has developed a strong reputation as an urban education expert, and that's the sole basis for his service on the same organizational board as Obama. And Michelle Obama never "hated America."

It's time to look at who really will do the best job as president, not try to divert attention from the Republican economic mess by trying to sling 40-year-old mud. I hope enough Dunklin Countians do realize that Obama is the best choice.

Is anybody tired of Hollywood actors and other entertainers getting involved in politics? I don't want to know what their political beliefs are, I want to be entertained. When they start spouting their politics--I TUNE THEM OUT!!! We like them because of how well they can entertain us. Have you ever been watching a sitcom and thought to yourself, I wonder how they feel about so and so? Not me--NEVER!

Hill Harper is a very talented actor. However, the Bootheel of Missouri overwhelmingly voted Republican in the Presidential Primaries, so unless voters in the Bootheel changed their minds since, I don't think Obama is getting the majority vote here.

The people of Dunklin County will not vote in sufficient numbers for Obama. Did anybody ask Hill if he knew that Obama was/is a good friend of the Weather Underground terrorist, Ayers, and that Obama is married to a woman who hated America, prior to Obama's campaign? This article should have been entitled,"Hollywood Meets Hill for Hoodo."
