Lady Tribe wins 14th game, stays perfect in Bootheel play

CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. -- The Kennett Lady Indians volleyball served 16 aces on the night as it stayed perfect in Bootheel Conference play with a 25-14, 25-14 win over the Caruthersville Lady Tigers here Monday.

"Our serving game was on real good," Kennett coach Laura Ort said. "We worked on it in practice a little on Friday. We've really just talked about hitting our spots and being more effective servers."

Brea Riddle led the way again for the Lady Tribe (14-2-1, 4-0 Bootheel) with four aces, six kills and eight assists.

"Brea's a utility player," said Ort. "She can play whatever position you put her in. I'm definitely glad she's on my team. I would hate to try to defend her."

Megan Lack added two kills and four aces, while Taylor Wake had five kills and Ciara Dewrock added five kills and five aces.

Chrisie Burrow dished off five assists while Jodi Vancil added two kills and three aces.

In junior varsity action, Kennett improved to 8-2 and 4-0 in the league with a 25-17, 25-16 victory.

Kennett hosts Bootheel Conference rival Senath-Hornersville this evening.

Girls Tennis
Kennett 8, Dexter 1

At Dexter, the Lady Tribe won five of its six singles matches and swept all three doubles matches to record another win over district foe Dexter.

In doubles, Susan Shetley and Anna Grantham won 8-6, while the duos of Hanna Lack-Brook Burcham and Hope Sparks-Samantha Geary won 8-2.

In singles, Grantham (8-0), Lack (8-1), Shetley (8-1), Sparks (8-3) and Geary (8-3) all won, while Burcham dropped an 8-3 decision to standout Katelyn Heil.

Softball
Poplar Bluff 4, Kennett 1

At Indian Park, the Lady Tribe lost to the Class 4 Lady Mules for the second time in a week.

Of Kennett's four losses this season, two are to Bluff.

The Lady Tribe hosts East Prairie on Thursday.

Boys Soccer
Perryville 2, Kennett 1

At Indian Park, Andrew Hooper tied the game on an assist from Patrick Ratliff , but Wade Lawrence scored the winning goal for the Pirates midway through the second half

Kennett is now 5-7-1, the most soccer wins in a season at KHS.

"I was really pleased," Kennett assistant coach Tom Hooper said. "Perryville's lost just one game this year. I'm just really pleased with the effort from the entire team."

Baseball
Fall Tournament
Campbell 8, S. Pemiscot 3

Zack Jackson had four RBIs, Cale Weeks hit a three-run homer and the Camels got a compete game victory from starter Dylan Lynn as they defeated the Bulldogs in the opening round of the Fall tournament Monday.

Kyle Matthews had three hits, including a double that helped drive in the first run in the bottom of the first inning. Cody Huber also had three hits while Jackson and Joe Campbell each had a pair of hits as the Camels (15-3) pounded out 13 hits on the day.

Lynn allowed three hits and three runs in the victory, walking four and striking out eight to run his record to 7-0 on the fall season.

On Saturday, Campbell won its own Wood Bat Tournament as three Camel pitchers combined to limit the Naylor Eagles to four hits on the day in winning 4-2 in the championship game.

Weeks's two-out, two-run-single in the bottom of the fifth inning proved to be difference in the game.

Joe Campbell picked up the win in relief for the Camels, pitching three shut out innings. Campbell had five hits on the day, including hits from Joe Campbell, Kyle Matthews, Jackson, and Nick Small.

Cooter wins Preacher Roe Classic
At. West Plains, Cooter (17-2) jumped to a 5-0 lead and held off Dora to win the Preacher Roe Classic on Saturday.

Jonathan Boone pitched his best game of the season hurling five innings and allowing no earned runs. Boone struck out four, allowed three hits, and walked a pair in the win.

Aaron McCaig closed out the last two innings striking out four, allowing one hit and walking two to earn the save.

In earlier action at the tourney Saturday, Cooter defeated Twin Rivers 8-1 and Licking 10-0.
