According to Peter Lobdell, state supervisor for MDATC, on Friday, Sept. 19, the MDATC conducted 10 alcohol compliance check investigations in Dunklin and Pemiscot Counties. The investigations resulted in the arrest of four individuals on charges of sale of liquor to a minor. In addition, the retail locations were cited for sale of liquor to a minor and will now face possible fines and/or suspension of their liquor license.
The individuals arrested Nancy D. Smith, 24; Seth Crawford, 20; and Lisa Wheeler, 20.
Lack was arrested after selling to a minor at Lack's Package Store, located at 15009 Highway 84 West in Kennett.
Smith was arrested after selling to a minor at Jellybean Hill, located at 401 S. Bypass in Kennett.
Crawford was arrested after selling to a minor at Westside Drive-In, located at 705 St. Francis Street in Kennett.
Wheeler was arrested after selling to a minor at Wal-Mart Supercenter, located at 1500 East First Street in Kennett.
Lobdell also listed the six locations which did not sell to the undercover minor. Those locations include Kennett Express, of Kennett; DC's Package Store, of Hayti, Mo.; Break Time, of Hayti; Sam's Package, of Caruthersville, Mo.; Casey's General Store, of Caruthersville; and Southside Package Liquor, of Caruthersville.
Lobdell also noted that these establishments and their employees are the first line of defense in the battle of underage drinking and praised them for their continued efforts in making Missouri a safer and healthier environment for area youth.

Would someone please explain how Seth Crawford, 20 and Lisa Wheeler, 20 had jobs in which they were able to sell liquor? Aren't they legally minors as well? It seems to me, in this case, their employers bear a greater responsibility.
It is unfortunate, however, there was no arrest, only a ticket, kinda like speeding, you go over the limit, you get a ticket, here the case was the person failed to check ID, no arrests, only a TICKET, not only 1 liquor store, but 4 out of 5. At least ALL of them were not cited. It was a mistake, so try to do better.
It doesn't matter if you were arrested or summoned to court. The bottom line is you all broke the law and should pay the consequences. Now four of Kennett's business may loose their license due to your neglegence. If they have to shut down what will happen to the employees that might just need their jobs. You did not stop and think of others. How hard would it have been to have taken a little extra time and asked for ID. Someone could of lost their life that night. Did you think of that? What would you do if that was your child? Instead of arguing over what was printed in the newspaper, think of your actions and the consequences that might of occured from your ill judgement.
To Nancy D. Smith.....it is obvious that you still don't "Get It"......By the fact that you were issued a summons is the same as being arrested.....the only difference is you were not booked into the jail on the charges. However, you were arrested......that is the reason you were issued the summons to appear in court to face the charges of which you were doing which was ILLEGAL......Just because you were not given a free ride to the jail in the back seat of a police vehicle does not mean that you were not arrested. GET REAL and face the facts .....you will get your day in court and have a chance to plead your case but the newspaper is not the proper place to do it......It does nothing for you and gets you NO SYMPATHY from me or any other upstanding law abiding citizen ....so enough of the crocodile tears and the I'm sorry BS and be glad that the minors who you and the other people who were ARRESTED did not kill anyone from their actions because if that had happened you would be in even deeper trouble from the lawsuits brought against you. By the way if you think I am too hard on you in the newspaper........just be thankful that I will not be sitting in the jury if the case goes to trial.
First off as a former cashier, shame on you nancy as well as the others. Nancy you said that you apologized, would that be enough for a family if they had lost their child because you or someone else had sold their child liquor and was killed behind the wheel of a vehicle? It wouldn't be for me. Yes, the minors involved are at fault as well. All I can say is I'm glad that you didn't sell to my children because it would not be over til the "fat lady sang".
I don't understand why you (hegraham816) feel the need to insult me any more than you already have. I have the right to request a retraction if the facts printed about me were false. Yes I sold the alcohol to a minor and I got a summons for it just like the other four people mentioned but I was not arrested. I have already apologized to you and your family for doing this and that is all I can do. I have said nothing hateful or disrespectful. I told you that I appreciated you allowing me to work there this summer and that I was very sorry, if I could take it back I would. But I can't. I have already lost the job and didn't recieve any pay for that day of work and now I am getting bashed on here!! This is uncalled for... please quit saying horrible things about me. It was a mistake that many people did or could have easily done themselves. No one is perfect but atleast I owned up to it and tried to make things right. If you do not want to accept my apology that is fine but you do not have to continue bashing me. Thank You!
I do not understand how you can feel vindicated by saying that you were not arrested and contesting the fact that it was printed by the newspaper...........and you are demanding a retraction???????? Shame on you for failure to do your job and putting your employer at risk of losing their liquor license. I am sure there are plenty of qualified people who are more than willing to do the jobs that you were hired to do and do it competently. The question is how many times you have done this...........I am sure this wasn't the FIRST time and of course I highly doubt that anyone forced you to sell alcohol to a minor.........so again as I say......SHAME on you!!!!!!!!!!!
This is Nancy D. Smith. I cannot express how upset I am by this article that is completely false, not only about me being arrested but the others as well. Mr. Lobdell has no right to say this nor does Mr. Anderson have the right to print it. I expect a retraction in the paper a.s.a.p!
My daughter, Lisa Wheeler was not arrested. She was given a summons to appear in court. Mr. Lobdell is mistaken.
