The Kennett High School homecoming parade drew a large crowd around the courthouse square, as onlookers were presented with school floats, bands, football players, cheerleaders and twirlers, prior to the introduction of Homecoming Queen Brook Burcham and her 2008 royal court.

This year's Annual Homecoming Parade was held on Friday, Sept. 19, beginning at the high school and ending on the Kennett Square.

Master of Ceremony Samantha Geary introduced the homecoming court which included Freshman Maid Haley Simmons, daughter of Tim and Sherry Simmons, escorted by Tyler Niemeier, son of Scott and Christi Daughtery; Sophomore Maid Jamie Jarrett daughter of James and Susan Jarrett and her escort, Blake Wilbanks, son of Alvin and Robin Wilbanks; Junior Maid Jody Vancil, daughter of Sarah and Andy Malone and Marty and Gentry Vancil, and her escort, Justin Lynn, son of David and Julie Lynn; Senior Maid Hillary Moore, daughter of Sheila Cooper and Kelvin Moore, and her escort Kelvin Moore Jr., son of Shelia Cooper and Kelvin Moore; and Homecoming Queen Brook Burcham, daughter of Britt and Beverly Burcham, and her escort, Jeremy Hughes, son of Jackie and Kim Hughes.

The court also included flower girl, Anelle Harris, daughter of Darren and Malinda Harris, and crown bearer, Camden Pritchett, son of Chad and Jill Pritchett.

Following the crowning of the Homecoming Queen, the Master of Ceremony, Samantha Geary, introduced guest speaker, Jason Scherer.

Scherer's speech was a motivational one that looked into his own past at Kennett High School and encouraged school spirit among today's breed of Indians.

"I grew up under the homecoming legend of Ward Billings, and I am sure you all know how much Mr. Billings loves homecoming," Scherer noted.

"My wife and I were in Columbia about a month ago and we picked up a couple of shirts that said 'I bleed black and gold' and we thought of the homecoming," Scherer said.

"Let me tell you guys, I am excited about the game tonight.

"You guys have the chance to bring home a homecoming victory and go 4-0 all at the same time, and let me tell you, everybody here hopes you do it. I hope to see everybody at the game tonight, and wear your black and gold."

"Go Indians," Scherer added.

After Scherer spoke, the ceremony ended with a big cheer for the Kennett Indians football team, and applause for the Homecoming royalty.

The royalty were followed by a special half-time production by the KMS and KHS bands, under the direction of Tom Ryan.

During the game, winners of the high school float competition were also announced and are as follows:
