Joseph Robert Vandiver, 71, of Hayti, Mo., died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at Kennett.

Born Sept. 15, 1946 in New Madrid, Mo., son of the late Jewell Roy Vandiver and Ida Crews Vandiver, he was a member of the Church of God in Kennett and Pemiscot County Rescue Squad, worked for W.M. Chrysler Company and the Hayti Methodist Church, he was a U.S. Army veteran.

On July 24, 1981, at Kennett, he married Barbara Hina who survives.

Also surviving are one brother, Jewell R. Vandiver Jr., of Kennett, Mo. and one sister-in-law Dorothy LaVancha of New York.

He was preceded in death by one brother, James Ray Vandiver and one sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Vandiver.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 6, at the John W. German Funeral Chapel in Hayti, with Brother Stuart P. Squires officiating.

Burial was in the Stanfield Cemetery at Clarkton, Mo., with full military honors.

Pallbearers were Adam Squires, James Squires, Kenny Foster, Terry Davis, Ray Cook, and Greg Williams.

Honorary pallbearer was Jerry Davis.
