Born in Holcomb on June 30, 1930, Joe was the youngest of five children born to Claude E. and Alice (Brooks) Meadows. They preceded him in death as did his four older siblings; Evelyn Raspberry, Claude E. Meadows Jr., Dorris Johnson and Jack Meadows.

In 1951 he entered the United States Army to serve during the Korean War. After his discharge in 1953, Joe returned to farming in Holcomb with his family. Joe and Shirley were married on June 7, 1958 at Senath Methodist Church in Senath, Mo. They were married 49 years at the time of Shirley's death on July 10, 2007. In 1960 Joe began work with the USDA Agricultural Research Service Plant Pest Control in Kennett. In 1961 he left this position to begin work for USDA Federal Grain Inspection Service in Kansas City, Mo. He transferred from this office to Hutchinson, Kan. in 1964 and to Wichita in 1968. He remained in this position until his retirement in June of 1989.

Joe is survived by his daughter Jo Beth (Jeff) Rood and son Robert (Jill) Meadows all of Wichita, Kan. He was also the proud Papa of six grandchildren; Rachael, Allison and Alex Rood, Lindy, David and Lucy Meadows.
