Born Jan. 18, 1933, in Hayti, son of the late John and Nellie Metzger, he was a veteran of the Korean war, a farmer, a well driller and had worked at the Caruthersville Shipyard.
On Dec. 21, 1953, in Hernando, Miss., he married Rosa Lee Estes, who survives.
Survivors also include one son, John R. Metzger, of Sherwood, Ark.; one daughter, Rebecca Thompson, of Camdenton, Mo.; three brothers, J.W. and Cletus Metzger and Ralph Metzger and wife, Jean.; three sisters, Margaret DelMonaco, Mayola Cross and husband, Boots and Geneva Metzger and four grandchildren, Phillip and Lauren Metzger, Devon Thompson and Magan Whitledge.
He was preceded in death by one son, Phillip Metzger and two brothers, Murrell Mullins and Bill Metzger.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 17, at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Hayti with Bros. Bobby Bradford and Doug Wahls officiating.
Burial with military honors was in the Dry Bayou Cemetery at Hayti.
Pallbearers were David Turner, Gary Hayes, Danny Young, Jim Madison, Boots Cross and Stevie Henderson.
