Herman M. Franks, Sr., 80, of Hayti, Mo., died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, in Portageville, Mo.
Born December 2, 1927, in Savannah, Tenn.; he was the son of the late Herbert and Etta Burcks Franks. He worked at Brown Shoe. After retirement, he and his son, Herman, owned and operated H&H Horse Sales.
He married Ruby Mae Abbott on Aug. 30, 1947 in Caruthersville, Mo.; she preceded him in death, March 5, 2005. Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Bobby and Jay Franks.
He is survived by, two sons, Herman Franks Jr. of Caruthersville, Mo., Lester Franks and his wife Joy of Seattle, Wash.; one brother, Joe Franks of Hayti, Mo., one sister, Jean Steigel of Kennett, Mo.; three grandchildren Charity Vaughn and Faith Babcock of Caruthersville, Mo., Luke Franks of Desota, Miss.; five great grandchildren, Allison Tillman, Kaitlyn and Dylan Babcock, Hunter and Hannah Vaughn, and special family friend Hope Franks of Caruthersville, Mo.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 15, 2008 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Hayti, Mo., with the Rev. Kenny Lee officiating.
Pallbearers were Herman Franks, Jr., Keith Jean, Alan Jean, William Baker, Martin Ray, and Bobby Irions.
