Dunklin County Circuit Judge Stephen Sharp recently sentenced Shawn D. Kilgore, 36, of Malden, Mo., to three years in Missouri Penitentiary for criminal non-support. Kilgore had been charged with failure to provide support for his three minor children.

Kilgore was originally charged in 2004, and on September 14, 2005, he was placed on probation conditioned on his making support payments.

On Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, Sharp revoked Kilgore's probation and sentenced him to three years in the Department of Corrections.

His probation was also revoked in a case that had been filed in 2002, on which he served a 90-day jail sentence in 2004.

Assistant Prosecuting Attorney John Nichols, who is responsible for the Child Support Division of the Dunklin County Prosecutor's Office, handled the case.

Dunklin County Prosecuting attorney Stephen Sokoloff said, "It is unfortunate when we have to incarcerate a defendant because he refused to provide support for his children.

"However, when defendants do not avail themselves the opportunity we give them to take care of their responsibilities, we have no a native and we will use the penitentiary for those who will not meet those responsibilities."

Sokoloff also praised Judge Sharp for the sentence.

"Sometimes you just have to send a message," Sokoloff said.

prison is no place for this man to be...the mother(s) of his children ought to see him making some happy meals for his children when his pay check is picked up...prison is an easy way out and he won again

ok, I understand that in a perfect world everyone would have a decent paying job, and I'm not letting this guy off any different than anyone else in that anyone can get a job who wants one, but as the USA there are not enough jobs out there for every citizen. I work 3-4 jobs at a time to provide for my family, and I see first hand how hard it is to find work! However, Prison is not a "vacation" I mean come on! you can't call home whenever you want, get real,, you can't even take a crap or pee whenever you want! 3 meals a day but only if you get up at 5am to eat breakfast, and it's not like your eating Steaks! or take out! You work full time and get paid $20 a month! So, before you pass judgement, go spend some time there!

Peanut.....maybe you should commit some type of crime and get sent to prison.....you make it sound so good.

You forgot to mention the nice luxurious cells, the freedom to come and go as you please, the fantastic and wonderful company you get to spend time with, those good looking jump suits...and a host of other benefits of being in prison.

He deserves prison......cannot make someone work and pay if they refuse. Prison seems like the perfect solution.

Peanut, I agree with some of what you say especially the part about WORKING. There should be a better way to ensure that parents support their children. To do otherwise is to put a larger burden on the current caregivers and the taxpayers.

Yeah, these sentences need to be handed down more often! I am a grandmother taking care of two children because their daddies won't do it. One of them got two years probation, got it revoked and spent a whopping 30 days in jail and is now off of probation but there has been no payments made! HOW RIDICULOUS! These kids mom works at Blue Cross/Blue Shield but she still can't do it on her own.

Will another deadbeat Dad's win again.

He get to go to prison and get Three meals a day

a place to sleep, college edcation, clothes to

wear, pair of new black shoes. And his children get

to know what it is to be raised on Warfare.

But he still get out of paying.

To all of us that work for our money and our

taxes keep getting higher, and the cost of gas,

food, higher. This is one example of why.

We go to work every day and people like him

are enjoying watching TV, everyday in prison and

calling home, any time he want to.

But who going to step up and tell these deadbeats

we have another plan for you. Work for it.

Be accountable.
