SENATH, Mo. -- Mayor Bill Anderson and the Senath city council have been working toward getting some of the city's worst streets paved and repaired.

The most recent project has been the repair of a portion of State Street that runs right in front of the high school and elementary school.

"This portion of State Street right in front of the school has been in need of repair for a while, due to the high concentration of bus and car traffic," Anderson said.

Since taking office, Anderson has been busy, with the aid of his council members, in getting some of the city's streets re-paved or repaired.

"We have a lot of low areas in some of our streets due to the water and sewer project that took place about nine years ago here," Anderson said. "So we have a lot of work to be done, that we can only do as the money comes available," he said.

Last year Anderson and the council were able to get two streets that were gravel paved, at a cost of $32,000. "We were able to get the two streets paved last year, as well as the one we are here looking at today done, by carefully managing our tax payer's money," Anderson said. "Carefully observing, managing and paying very close attention to needs versus available resources is the key to getting jobs like this done," he added.

The paving projects that are currently taking place in the City of Senath is being done by Southern Paving Company, out of Neelyville, Mo.

"It's important to not jump into projects like this, though you know they are much needed, unless you know where the funds are coming from and that it's not going to put your tax payers or city in a bind," Anderson said.

Anderson said that more paving projects are being looked into for the City of Senath. "Like we just discussed though, they can only be done as the money becomes available," Anderson said.
