Emma Jean Baxter, 72, died Monday, June 23, 2008, at Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti, Mo.
Born Jan. 17, 1936, daughter of Ed Lesley and the late Bessie Irene Duncil, she was a homemaker and worked at Brown Shoe Company. She was of the Baptist faith and attended Cottonwood Baptist Church.
On June 20, 1953, in Sanford, Fla., she married Billy Ray Baxter, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by one brother, James "Mickey" Mitchell.
Survivors include one daughter, Debra Jean Moody and husband, Mickey, of Caruthersville, Mo.; one son, Michael Ray Baxter and wife, Martha, of Sikeston, Mo.; one sister, Bonnie Marshall and husband, Bob, of Ogden, Utah; two brothers, Dave Lesley and wife, Vick, of Ogden and Greg Lesley and wife, Tanya, of Joplin, Mo.; her father , Ed Lesley and wife, Lee; three grandchildren, Laura E. Treece, of Caruthersville, Claudia R. Hamby, of Sikeston and Charles E. Beeson, Jr., of East Prairie, Mo., and three great-grandchildren, William Aiden Treece, Chloe Gabrielle Hamby and Charles Emmett Beeson III.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 26, 2008, at H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville with the Rev. Jim Pilcher officiating.
Burial was in the Maple Cemetery at Caruthersville.
Pallbearers were Gary Raney, Robert Culler, James Mitchell, Artie Hicks, Scott Warren and Mike Medlin.
Honorary pallbearers were Fred Henson, Curtis Thornton, Fred Hardy, Robert Garrett, Calvin House and Johnny Hosler.
