Photo provided Trenton Thompson, 9, son of Joe Don and Virginia Thompson, is all smiles as he holds up the year's first cotton bloom from a field at the Thompson homeplace, west of Senath at Beech Corner. The youngster spotted the bloom on Wednesday, June 25.

This is the things I always looked for when I was a youngster, the first bloom always meant that summer was here, and the first cotton boll meant that the Delta Fair was close at hand.
