Major McKinley Jones, 76, of Hayti, Mo., died Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at the Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti.
Born Oct. 19, 1931, in Sledge, Miss., son of the late McKinnley and Lummie Lee William Jones, and raised by Mack and Elnora Williams, who also preceded him in death, he was a custodian for the Hayti City Park, a softball and basketball coach, and was a member of the Cedar Street Baptist Church in Hayti. He was attending Southeast State Community College in Kennett.
Survivors include his wife, Elliawe Moore Jones, of Hayti; three daughters, Linda and Carolyn Jones, of Malden, Mo., and Nancy Davis and husband, John, of Washington, D.C.; five sons, Robert Jones and wife, Ronda, of Phoenix, Ariz., McKinnley Jones, of Columbia, Mo., Freddrick Jones and wife, Nadine, of Hampton, Va., Dennis Jones, of Malden and David Jones and wife, Melissa, of Fulton, Mo.; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter; one son; one brother and one sister.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Thursday, June 19, at the Faith Temple Church of God in Christ in Hayti with the Rev. Darion Thomas officiating.
Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Hayti, Mo.
Pallbearers were Henry and Charles Moore, Michael Winters, Major Jones Jr., and Freddie and Dennis Jones.
John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti was in charge of arrangements.
