Born Jan. 31, 1921, in Clarkton, Mo., son of the late Franklin and Ella Blair Provance, he was a cotton gin repairman and a member of Lynn Oak General Baptist Church in Clarkton.
On Oct. 15, 1939, he married Marguarite Freeman, who preceded him in death on Feb. 28, 1989. He later married Peggy L. Hollifield-Evans on Sept. 9, 1997 in Malden, who survives.
Survivors also include four daughters, Nelda Crosby, of Marion, Ill., Saundra Stroud, of Hernando, Miss., Anita Provance, of Farmington, Mo., and Cheri Lynn Brunner and husband, Ralph, of Olive Branch, Miss.; one son, James Dalton Provance, Jr., and wife, Sandra K., of Benton, Ky.; one sister, Kathryn Graves, of Forsythe; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and nine sisters.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., today, Tuesday, June 24, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel in Malden with the Rev. Jack Cole officiating.
Burial was in the Lynn Oak Cemetery at Clarkton.
