Dewey Diggs

Funeral services for 72 year old Dewey Don Verni Diggs, formerly of Piggott, Arkansas who passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Florida will be Sunday, June 15, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. at the Irby Funeral Chapel in Piggott. Interment will follow in the Piggott Cemetery. Visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. until services begin at 9:00 a.m.

Mr. Diggs was born April 1, 1936 in Nimmons, Ark., the son of the late Charles Franklin Diggs and Alma Dell Nation Diggs. He was a Merchant Marine for Cargill, a River Boat Captain of the boat Arrowhead for 49 years and he was an Army Reservist.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Delayne Diggs; one brother, Charles Melton Diggs and two sisters, Dolly Delores Diggs Lewis and Virginia Mae Diggs Halter.

He will be truly missed by survivors, his wife of 52 years Ruth Vivian Diggs of the home; son, Dewey Delayne Diggs and wife, Cynthia Lee, of Independence, Mo.; daughter, Linda Louise Diggs Johnson and husband, Kent Alan, of Mt. Vernon, Ind.; grandson, Jacob Daniel Diggs and wife Danille Ann; great-granddaughter, Haley Jolene Diggs and stepdaughter, Donna Kay Bolyard and her son Bartley Edward Sims. Also surviving are his nieces, nephews and many other loving relatives and friends.
