James Edward Smallmon, Kennett, Mo., passed away on Saturday, June 7, at his residence.

He was born in Athens, Ala., to William Pleas Smallmon and Mary Lee Smallmon on April 20, 1929.

He married Kathryn Wright in Nettleton, Ark., on Oct. 11, 1947.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Lott "Bud" Youmans; two granddaughters, Vera Susan Youmans and Rachel Nicole Peel; one great-grandson, Troy Dean Oliver; one sister, Maxine Hicks of Kennett, and two brothers, John Smallmon of Kennett and Jack Smallmon of Oregon.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; three daughters, Linda Camden and husband, Don, of Wappapello, Mo., Debra Bates and husband, Richard, of Kennett and Tammy Wrather and husband, Gary, of Kennett; two sons, Jerry Smallmon and wife, Patsy, of Kennett and James Smallmon and wife, Kim, of Paragould, Ark.

He is also survived by one sister of California and two brothers, Frank and wife, Glenda, of Kennett and Paul Smallmon and wife, Gwen, of Michigan.

He also has 20 grandchildren 22 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

He had several neighbors and friends who called him The Whistler because he was always whistling.

He was a farmer and cotton ginner in Dunklin County for over 50 years

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., today, Tuesday, June 10, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 11, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with Brother Jimmy Noonan officiating..

Burial will follow in the Oak Ridge Cemetery at Kennett.

Pallbearers are Anthony Miller, Conner Henson, Jonathan Duke, Mark Gibson, Lee Jones and Harry Gaddis.
